Not exactly good at hiding amongst the branches unless you are color blind. But how beautiful and what a wonderful scene! I found the words pretty clever too. Thanks.
Cardinals prefer the edge of fields, so there are a lot near suburbia, and still quite a few in post agricultural lands. I see most Cardinals in country but not wild areas. But that is just my experience.
My favorite, my favorite – who cares about Chickadees when you can see a RED Cardinal? What a thicket of branches.
There are usually lots of birds hidden in the branches of this tree. They have to move for me to see them. But not this guy.
What a capture of that eye-popping red. A refreshing color to see in the drab of winter!
I sure see more of them in the winter. Probably because of bare trees, and white snow.
Beautiful photograph! I also love the alliteration and rhythm of your haiku. The last line made me laugh out loud!
Thanks! That was my aim.
Love this one..
Peace,
Laz
Thanks so much, Laz.
LOL! I like your sense of humor =)
Thank you!
Love the humor and rhythm. Great one to read aloud! Andrea
I notice that about certain poem, too.
Thanks for the comment.
That little guy’s camouflage isn’t working all that well! (At least for those of us critters who have color vision.)
I never thought about that! It would be hard for this guy to hide, wouldn’t it?
This is delightful, Sandy.
Bothe the wonderful picture, and your humour!
Thanks for this uplifting moment!!
Brenda
You are welcome, Brenda. I hope I made you smile!
It is amazing how a chance glimpse of a bird can brighten a long winter day.
How wonderful! His colour still amazes me. Love the haiku
Some cardinals are brighter than others. I am not sure if it is age or diet. Maybe neither, but this one is dazzling.
What a surprise when I saw the photo! Wonderful.
I thought after that the haiku doensn’t stand alone well. Oh well, I will do better next time.
“just” a lonely Cardinal, I see
The female was there, but busy at the feeder. In fact, all the while I was watching, she never left it.
Hi Sandy–I like this one a lot!
I am glad! It is just done in fun.

Thanks! Hey, do you see cardinals out in the wild very often? I saw one in a group of birds mobbing an owl once, but that is it.

I love seeing that flash of red in the shrubs. I often wonder if he thinks he’s not visible to us there, Sandy
Could be. One of my grandsons used to think we couldn’t see him if he closed his eyes.
Stunning! I love the red of the cardinal against the brown/black of the trees in winter….and you have that extra touch of snow! Bravo!
Yes, it seems like our winter is just getting started. Until last week, we hadn’t even seen much of the birds.
What a great shot of the cardinal!
Thanks, he is a real standout.
beautiful splash of color amongst those branches.
This one more than usual, too. He was in excellent shape.

I love that a song, and that group. Thanks so much, Pat.
Such a standout!
He knew, too!
Love that flash of color!
Thanks for stopping by, Derrick.
Love the burst of red in the bush. For some reason we don’t have many cardinals around this winter. Lots of chickadees, though.
what a wonderful splash of red!
wonderful writing!
