Heck, if it can be done the crows will try it. Have you seen that video that is going around the internet of the crow sledding on roof, while riding on a jar lid?
Sandy,
This is a delightful picture, and poem.
I too, just love the crows skating. Here our Canada geese do this on our small lake.
How nice to have a mild day with puddles – a respite for humans and crows.
Brenda
love the horizontal elements…the cloud lifting over the light…the dark trees and barn…then finally the brilliant shine slashed between the snow….really lovely Sandy ♥
Am kinda jealous. We’re still waiting for it to freeze so we can have a thaw. This year’s winter seems to be stuck in ‘Global Warming Hell’. Just a quagmire of mud, slush and gray. It is what it is. Never thought I would hear myself say, “wish the temperature would plummet and we get a kick butt snow storm”. As per, me likes the photo an it’s amigo haiku.
Have you been out today? We have an icy week, and a skating rink driveway, thanks to all that melting this week. You may be getting your wish, well, except for the snow.
I love how you framed the sun!
Thanks. I was waiting for that top cloud, but it never really did.
the sun in the ice, surrounded by indigo snow–I am SO glad you go out there at these times of day, when you could be having tea
I went out while the coffee was brewing!
lovely
both words and image~
Thanks, Tammie. It has gotten much cooler today, so guess the thaw is over.
Such a beautiful New England scene, Sandy. That camera of yours must be smokin’ most of the time.
I do use it almost every day, and rarely go out without it. New England definitely has a certain look, and it is one that I have grown to love.
The thought of crows skating made me chuckle. Thought it was only geese that did that!

Beautiful! The trees highlighted by the setting sun, the sun reflected in the water….the definite feel of winter’s chill…
Great photo and haiku!
Thanks, Judy. The reflection in the water is what first caught my eye.
The sun glow cast on the puddles is a good enough reason to start the day early!
If I had been able to get closer, the photo would have been better. I had on clogs intsead of boots, so didn’t venture out in the deep snow.
Gorgeous, Sandy! Perfect words and stunning shot.
It looks okay on my screen (mac) but I wonder if it is too dark some some PC’s? I went out a little early to get a good reading on my meter.
Thanks, though.
The idea of crows skating seems natural to me and enormous satisfying. The photo is good too.
I saw one scoot a donut across the ice once, while trying to pick it up.
It looked just a hockey player.
Crows and ravens are both characters. They seems to be always coming into my writing in one way or another. Maybe the one you saw was a hockey player!
Sandy,
This is a delightful picture, and poem.

Brenda, we are having heavy rain today here at the coast. Inland, though, is getting ice and snow.
I imagine all kinds of birds slide around. Ducks have a better chance of staying upright, with those large flat feet.
Delicious photograph. And what a “thaw” it is. What winter?
Are you getting this heavy rain? I hope none of it ends up in the cellar.
I love the word image of the crows’ skating. It makes me smile and it seems so perfect.
They can be really fun to watch. And, when I am out, they are just as interested in what I am doing.
Oh how beautiful!!! Your words and this stunning scene.
Thanks, Geraldine. There is a road just in front of the barn, but from this view, it looks quite tranquil.
A lovely photograph-the reflections on the ice in the foreground
underlines the chill, even if the sun is warm. Thank you.
You are very welcome! Thanks for stopping in.

Thanks! I like the sandwich effect of this shot, but the reflection was the reason I shot it.
This is Wonderful! I was “into” the lovely image of the sunrise, and then I chuckled over crows skating!! God bless you today.
Thanks so much, Caddo. The crows make me chucle at least once a day.
Oh, I adore this one! the last line is very ‘in-tune’ with traditional haiga elements. Love it!
Thanks! I have to say that some verses come out better than others.
beautiful photo–and I love the last line of the poem!
Kateri, I know from reading your blog, that you are a keen nature observer, and that you enjoy the crows antics as much as I do.
This is so beautiful! Very nice photo.
Thanks so much, Nandini, for the comment, and for stopping in.
beautiful picture and words!
Thanks, I enjoy your posts, too.
So beautiful Sandy,
Peace,
Laz
Thanks, Laz! I read your poems every morning, now that I have found the WP reader.

Hi Sandy
Love the skating crows.
Guy
They are getting lots of practice this winter, with all this up and down weather.
So beautiful!
Thanks, so much!
I see others are chuckling about the skating crows, too!
They do know how to make the best of every kind of weather condition.
“Crows skate…” I can see the little black birds doing just that. Well done!
