about me
Hello, and welcome to my haiku blog. Two off my favorite things to do will be united here, photography and writing haiku. The gift of a book, The Sound of Water, from my husband got me interested several years ago. Most of the photos used here have been taken with a Nikon d200 camera, another gift from my husband. Here is a quote from that book to start off my blog. Soon, you will see how much I like dragonflies.

are reflected in the eye

This site is a excellent composition of creative harmony – reflections of nature and inner thought painted with images and words.
Stunningly beautiful and serene
Hi Sandy, When you have a minute, can you email me? (address is at My Poetic Path) I have a question to ask, if you can help re: photos/text.

Hello Sandy, I look forward to looking in on both of your blogs. I sense we are kindred spirits. Poetry & photography are also two of my favorite creative explorations.
Hello Sandy,
Look at your smile. My husband also gifted me with a camera. That is regaled in a funny post on my blog called “Wanderlust.”
So glad I found you. I keep returning, as you see.
they are tricky to guess
Lovely poem and how sweet to have the active support of one’s spouse.
My heart is lifted by your story and your work. If you haven’t seen Seeds From a Birch Tree (another book about the practice of haiku), you might enjoy it.
Smiles, Lené
A very attractive blog, sandy.
I have been traveling through your web site and feel so at home. I am a botanical artist and potter living in NY. Haiku and dragonflies among a love of nature have always drawn me in. All the best to you, Laura and Graham’s bright spirit
Fantastic example of your haiku, Issa (I didn’t know that is your name). I truly enjoy all your work – both words and images.

‘The distant mountains

The quote moved me.
I know I have already commented else where in FOUR WINDS HAIGA, am glad I visited and stumbled upon someone who knows what it is to ‘not just look’ but who knows ‘how to see’.
I think you will find quite a few around FWH with the same love and respect for nature.
Welcome!
I’m so pleased to “meet” you! Looking forward to visiting often as I follow your work. Seems to me you have a marvelous sense of balance between the experience and the word, the word and the visual image. Lovely flow.
Thanks for the Like on my blog. It bought me here and I love your photographs and poetry. Looking at Yellow Sky made me think you would love David Sylvian’s song September, which is very short and poetic, if not really a haiku.
I lovedragonflies too! Thank you for liking my Crows Haiku. I took a look around your blog, I enjoy your photos and writing.
Wonderful, my first visit here!! I, also, love haiku–yours is lovely, and also the photos!! You’re most welcome to visit me, if you like. I’ll drop by again when I get a holiday-break. God bless you richly!
Love your site; I’ve been “into” haiku since an early age, when my family lived in Japan for a short time. This created in me an interest in all things oriental, and I’ve tried my hand at haiku since my early teens. I don’t write poetry much, as I can’t seem to write anything I consider worthy of being seen by others; my haiku are the exception to that. When I do turn my hand to them, I always enjoy the outcome, rare as they are. Any who, thanks for stopping by my site to check it out; I’m glad you liked it. I love reading haiku, even more than writing them, so I’ll be back to see more of yours….I enjoyed “night snow” a lot, and the photo is perfect with it…..I’m glad to have made this connection, and look forward to more of your haiku….take care….
hi Sandy,
thanks for visiting and ‘liking’! I really like what I’ve seen and read here Great that I came across your blog, definitely looking forward to exploring it more!
)
(btw, has your blog’s name anything to do with the chinese expression of ‘announcing it to the four winds?’ curious . .
Actually, I chose that name when we started planning our retirement. At that time we had no idea where we would end up. So the name is more about directions.
Glad to have you aboard this blog.
Oh . . to explain my comment, ‘announcing it to the four winds’ is an expression found in one of them Chinese classics, referring to a strong woman who speaks her mind (that made her slightly dangerous in ancient Chinese eyes but also a force to be reckoned with!) and your blog’s name reminded me of that . .
Glad to be here.
glad ive stumbled on your blog…very interesting
Thank you, glad to have you!
How lovely that you’re following my blog–thanks so much–we’ll enjoy sharing haiku back and forth!! And I’ll have to try a Haiga now! God bless you.

Have you thought about putting your own book together. Your work would make a lovely collection go of images. Your haiku complements your photographs beautifully. I always look forward to your new postings.
No, not really I just enjoy haiga and photography. But who knows what the future holds?
Thanks for the nice comment, though.

Thanks so much, but I would rather just enjoy your company!
A beautiful blog and concept. Curious about your process. Do your haiku and photos come at the same time, or should I say does the image precede the haiku? And the haiku, all at once or do you edit and revise them?
Well, sometimes the whole haiku comes all at once, and I have to look though by files for a shot to go with it.
Other times, there is something about a photo that leads me to write about it.
Oh yes I edit, sometimes even after I post a haiku, if I think of a better line!
Sandy,
I’ve been enjoying your blog. The blend of your beautiful photos and poems inspire me. Thank you for sharing your passion,
Steff
